NFL Picks Week 1

Get both our side and over/under pick for the season opener!

We expect both teams to go backwards a bit this season after very solid seasons a year ago. Certainly the Falcons have the better offense but the Bears, at home bring the superior defense and the Falcons always better inside on turf - not the case here.

If you're a long time visitor to our picks you know that we've often said - when it's tough to find anything to like about either team, take the points. This applies nicely here. The Browns are probably the better team but we have trouble seeing them more than 6 points better than anybody in the league, dog in a rivalry game is a nice pick.

Chiefs looked horrible in pre-season and have since lost Tony Moeawki - the safety net for Cassel who is already less than 100% to start. Chiefs offensive line is not very good. We give most of the credit for last years offense to now departed Charlie Weiss. Long year for KC starts with the easiest game on the schedule an upset loss at home.

Rams might have made believers of some last season with consistent solid play. And although we do believe Philly is overhyped and Vick can't be as amazing this season as last the talent difference here seems significant.

Both teams over achieved last year with young teams and both seem ready to take a step forward this season but TB had a lot of breaks go their way last season and won a lot of close games. Not sure that continues this season and Detroit is a few years ahead of the Buccs we believe.

Battle of stud running backs here in a likely low scoring game. Not sure we trust either team with our money just yet so if you must play it take the points.

Great game as always is likely in this one. We believe the Ravens offensive line may not be quite as good this season and that's bad news against a very tough Steeler defense. This one goes down to the wire, we'd love +3 for the pick but the line steady at just +2.5 as we post picks so we go with it.

Peyton Manning out for this one, and perhaps all year as rumors swirl Thursday afternoon. Colts have been really bad the games in the last 14 years they played without Peyton including all pre-season. Factor the mental impact Manning news has on this team and the Colts can't be trusted - but the line just too hefty for opening day and so many unkowns. A rare no pick.

It is really hard to pick a team led by Tavarias Jackson on the road, but perhaps harder to lay points with the Niners. Another ugly play with little to like about either team, slight edge to SF but not a 5 point edge.

There are some very nice matchups in week 1 and we love our Top Picks - this game is neither of the those. This another of many rather unintriguing games. We expect very little from either team.

Dallas might be a surprise team this year as for the first time in a while nobody seems to be touting them too much. Jets aren't much to watch but they just keep winning football games and at home in primetime it's tough to pick against them.
