Week 1 of the NFL season is finally here!
Week 1 always some unique challenges as pre-season tells us very little about teams overall in most cases. A few big lines in week 1 again shows me that parity in the NFL is not what it once was...

Interesting dynamic at play here as Favre goes to the Jets pushing Pennington out who then ends upwith Miami. Both teams likely improved in the process and although we like the new and improving Dolphins the Jets have the edge at QB and certainly at WR. Dolphins remain young so the Jets experience another edge.
NY Jets -3

Tough to look at laying 17 points in any NFL game, particularly week 1 and even more so as Tom Brady didn't play in the pre-season and speculation about his foot remains a mystery. Add the reality that Pats offensive line probably isn't as good as last year, nor is their secondary. Still, just see nothing in KC to be excited about on offense. Brody Croyle does not look like an NFL QB and the offensive line is not very good. LJ is back, but the only real threat and only minimal with the offensive line. Pats will make a huge statement here in week 1 so nobody forgets that they believe they are the best team in the NFL.
New England Patriots -16.5

When Schaub was on the field with Johnson last season, the Texans were a decent offense - it just didn't happen too often in 2007. Houston still has running game issues but the Steelers were absolutely terrible protecting Big Ben last year and we just don't see them significantly improved. Houston Texans +6.5

Another road dog here that might too good too pass on. Titans look to have a solid running game with a nice White/Johnson combo and of course Vince Young always a threat to make plays with his feet. This one comes down a late FG so we'll take the points.
Tennessee Titans +3

Falcons start the season with a rookie QB who didn't exactly win the job, he just seemed to suck less than everybody else. Falcons will be one dimensional trying to focus on their ground game which may be decent this decent but their secondary will be exposed by quality WRs for Detroit. Tough to play on Detroit as a road favorite but even tougher to play on Atlanta.
Detroit Lions -3

Very concerned about the Seahawks truly being ready for this game, this team has a lot of injuries on an aging team. Buffalo has improved nicely on defense and is highly optimistic about a solid season, they'll be fired up and ready for their opener!
Buffalo Bills -1

We expect both teams to be pleasant surprises this season but of course something has to give. Being at home with some emotion and the Buccs being a much better home team with some injury concerns we like the set up for the home team as the pick here.
New Orleans Saints -3

Eagles could play spoiler in not only the NFC East but in the NFC overall as a healthy Eagles team is very impressive. They do have some injuries right now at WR that are a concern but with McNabb and Westbrook healthy we like the Eagles. However, we also like the Rams with a healthy Bulger and Jackson. The Rams offensive line does concern us but with the line over a TD we can't pick against an open backdoor.
St Louis Rams +7.5

Dallas the favorite of many in the NFC and with good reason. We remain skeptical about the Browns having another amazing season on offense but could certianly be proved wrong. They are at home and could make a huge statement by knocking off Dallas to start the year. We do expect some points but the number here is simply too high for any opening day game, some rust likely keeps the score under this high total so we go with 2 picks in this one.
Cleveland Browns +6
Cowboys/Browns UNDER 49

Chargers should win the AFC West with their eyes closed and certianly should put themselves right back in the hunt for the Super Bowl. However, Gates and Rivers both recovering from off season surgery so a slow start not unlikely and Carolina, despite missing Smith for this one can certainly be a top NFC team and have a nicely balanced running game. Delhomme also coming off surgery but our play here is to take the points, anything more than a TD was too much to turn down; the Panthers have always played well on the road.
Carolina Panthers +9

A bit concerned about the health of Manning, but if any QB can be ready quickly it's this guy in this offense for this team. And although we expect the Colts to take a bit of a step backwards this season we expect very little from the Bears.
Indianapolis Colts -9.5

HUGE early divisional match up! Vikings catch a break going to Green Bay early in the season but at Green Bay on Monday Night is not a great spot for any team.
