One key stat that can't be ignored as we enter week 6. There are 5 teams 5-0 that we're looking at...Alabama, Ball State, Penn St, South Florida and Utah.
Since 1980 teams 5-0 are 133-163 ATS in week 6. If their opponent is off an ATS loss of 12 or more and the line is under 28 those 5-0 teams have gone 7-29 ATS! If it's a conference game in game 6 the undefeated teams are just 4-23 ATS! This would be Ball State and Penn State this week.
I'm not a huge fan of trends like this but those are some compelling numbers.

As noted above Penn State falls into the trends trap and as we said last week we knew the line was getting a bit too high. Concern here is that Penn St has a big edge on D but D can improve with emotion and Purdue at home will be fired up for this one.
Spartan's Ringer looking very impressive and Hoyer gaining confidence, improvement not coming nearly as quickly for Iowa to expect much from them on the road.
Ga Tech QB Nesbitt downgraded to doubtful for this game, but even before this change on the Ga Tech offense we like the fundamentally sound Duke Bluedevils that play very tough defense and will make things tough on an inexperienced QB.

Back home at focused the tough Western Michigan D will make things very tough on an only average offense against much weaker opponents.
Tulane has a better defense, a better offense and they get a tired Army team at home without enough size of speed to stay close on the road.
Both teams trying to claw their way back near the top of the college football world. Both are getting closer but have a long way to go. Miami offense still too limited and the Seminoles absolutely has the speed on defense and that makes the big difference here.
Expect big bounce back for very talented Florida team not likely to lay another egg. Arkansas simply doesn't have the size, speed or depth to keep up against an angry Gator team.
UCF can't hold on to the ball and expect a flat game from the Knights. SMU improving with each week of practice.
Neither team seems to have what it takes to consistently stop the other so look for high scoring game and getting a TD with a quickly improving Miners team looks like an attractive pick.
We were anxiously awaiting to see just how high the line for this would could be...and it's up there but can't get too high for this game! But for very good reason. Every play in this game has the chance to be 6 points. Track meet from start to finish.
