Temple at Army
*Friday*

Temple returns ALL 22 starters and as Army works to implement the option they could be a little slow out of the gate as they get just 8 starters back this season. Temple has had all summer to get ready for the option which is effective due to its difficulty to defend with only a week of practice so Temple gains and edge with time and experience here.

Temple -7

Akron at Wisconsin

The Badgers have traditionally had BIG early season wins over teams they could over power and run at will against. This looks very like that exact scenario. Akron allowed 4.5 ypc last year overall and in 2 games vs Big 10 teams allowed nearly 6 yards per carry. Not good numbers against one of the best running teams in the country with their 312 lb average offensive linemen. Badgers run early and often with ease here making them the easy pick to extend the margin.

Wisconsin -25.5

Western Michigan at Nebraska

Significant improvement expected from the Huskers this season but very hard to ignore that they couldn't stop anybody. Bo Pellini can't turn around this defense that fast. Western Michigan has a very strong D of their own and a respectable balanced offense. Never easy to play in Lincoln and Western Michigan is no early season cupcake, they keep it close here so we play the dog.

Western Michigan +14

Washington U at Oregon

Oregon has won 4 straight in this series (by an average of 23 points per game) including opening up the margin late last season. Washington is young and going into a hostile environment backed by only a 3-11 ATS record in Pac 10 openers. Oregon lost a lot of talent on offense but they still play excellent defense and are the pick here.

Oregon -14

Mississippi State at Louisana Tech

To be honest here, plenty of trends favor the big boys from Miss St but the numbers can lie. This is only the 4th SEC team to travel TO La Tech and they are 3-0 ATS in the last 3 including 2 outright upsets (Cal and Okla St) so we look heavily and intangibles here and select the home dog.

Louisana Tech +8.5

Oklahoma State at Washington State

Another good opportunity to pick a home dog. Officially a neutral site game but there is nothing neutral about Seattle for Wash St. Oklahoma State a very strong team on offense, but have holes on D and we can't ignore a 5-14 SU road record for the Cowboys.

Washington State +7

Northern Illinois at Minnesota

Both teams look to be significantly improved here making picking either a strong play. Key here remains relatively simple. Minnesota has really struggled to stop the run and N Ill brings back a very experienced team that can run the ball. This one stays close all night long.

Northern Illinois +8.5

Virginia Tech at East Carolina

Va Tech impressive, no question but overlooking ECU is dangerous. They have improved each season since Holtz arrived and have 16 starters back. Too many points available here not to pick the underdog again.

East Carolina +9.5

Illinois at Missouri

Great game with these two last season and we expect another. But in the end the Tigers seems to have entirely too much on offense and a better defense. MU could start a run at a national title with a big here, we expect them to get it.

Missouri -9

Michigan State at California

Cal was one of the top teams in the nation a year ago early on before falling on hard times. They remain a very talented team with plenty of balance and are always tough at home.

California -4.5

UL - Lafayette at Southern Mississippi

Another spot where the first look pick could easily be seen at Southern Miss with plenty of trends favoring the bigger school. But ULL brings back their QB and best RB. Southern Miss may be thinking too much about Auburn on deck and could get shocked here.

UL - Lafayette +10.5

Arkansas State at Texas A&M

Line simply too high here, A&M has a lot of new players on defense and Ark State will be able to take advantage and keep this one close enough to cover a big spread.

Arkansas State +20
